Seamlines from The President

Hello , and Happy Spring!

The weather is doing its usual Spring ups and downs. We are still not ready to head outside. However, there is a lot of spring cleaning in the house. Hubby has decided it is time to refresh/remodel the house. For me, I need to pack up the sewing area for new flooring and ceilings. Oh, Boy! The things we save for later, ideas or projects for another day! I am taking the opportunity to clean, purge and finish those UFOs to make way for a refreshed space to work in. Lots of new ideas, sewing machines and gadgets to make our sewing life easier have come along in the last 40 years that make us rethink how we work. But, after cleaning and purging, I must ask myself, “what do I REALLY need for this space?” This is a work in progress, so stay tuned and I will share before and after pictures on the website.

I did tap the collective knowledge of my Neighborhood Group to gather tips and techniques that make life easier in their sewing space. They included surge protectors, outlets that are placed higher on the wall to lessen the bending over to plug items in, a wall switch for the outlet the iron is plugged into to give a quick glance to the iron being on or off, good task lighting, some pegboard to hang tools, a good whole house router so you can use a computer of sorts to follow classes or videos to aide in sewing a project, telescoping closet rods to hang a garment and several other ideas. What is your must have in your sewing space? I would love to hear your ideas!

I hope you are following our website to keep abreast of our monthly activities. Of note is the Fashion Show, Fabric Sale, summer picnic and annual meeting. Speaking of the annual meeting, it is not too early to be thinking of taking a role with our Chapter Advisory Board. Elections will be at the Annual Meeting in October, so it is never too early to start to research and consider a leadership role with the Chapter.

A note from National: please be reading the weekly Friday Emails. They are a wealth of information for all members. If you are not receiving the emails, please check your spam or junk mail, an old email that you no longer use regularly or your account with National to ensure your contact information is up to date. If all else fails, send me a note and we can forward a copy to you.

I am back to the sewing area. Although I am still purging, projects do come up. I have a new granddaughter, so an Easter outfit is a must. Additionally, there are 5 new babies due in 2025. My extended family is growing and fast! Yes, I am open to new ideas for gifts for babies, older siblings, or new parents.

Enjoy your spring sewing tasks. Enjoy the warming weather. Go slow enough to take the time to gather inspiration from nature as it begins to refresh itself from a winter’s sleep.

Regards,

Eileen Scott, President
